Monkey Island
Monkey Island

lowing a renovation of the island estate in the middle of the River Thames, Monkey Island's white-bricked pavilion and temple buildings will make up the main hotel. The furnishings will "juxtapose timeless glamour and traditional features with a modern, relaxed countryside style", while the Monkey Island Brasserie will serve up modern British cuisine. The hotel will consist of 27 bedrooms and three deluxe suites designed by New York-based Champalimaud Design, which also designed YTL's first British property, the Gainsborough Bath
Spa, this year's AA Hotel of the Year (England). Its name originates from the monks that lived on the estate until the 16th century, but the island later became known for the ‘grotesque' monkey paintings added to the pavilion while under the ownership of the 3rd Duke of Marlborough in the 18th century.

Cambridge's oldest hotel, the University Arms, is set to reopen following an £80m, three-year refurbishment, with a restaurant, Parker's Tavern, headed by chef Tristan Welch. The property is owned by real estate investor Melford Capital, which bought it from the De Vere Group in 2012. Extensions built during the 1960s and 1970s have been replaced by a classic building designed by John Simpson that complements the architectural heritage of the city. Simpson's earlier work has included the Queen's Gallery at Buckingham Palace and the entrance loggia and interiors at Kensington Palace. Brudnizki is creating a look described as "beautiful and playful" across the bedrooms, destination restaurant, bar and library.
