New York's St Regis hotel ranked best in the world

New York's St Regis hotel has been ranked the best in the world by US financial magazine Institutional Investor.

The hotel is the first New York property to top the magazine's ranking, which has been running for 25 years.

The survey was conducted by financiers, who were asked to rate hotels they had recently stayed at on a scale of one to 100.

Second place went to the Park Hyatt Paris-Vendôme, with the Mandarin Oriental New York in third position.

Four Seasons hotels mopped filled the next three positions with its with its properties in Milan, Singapore and the George V in Paris ranked fourth, fifth and sixth position respectively.

The remaining top 10 spots included the Mandarin Oriental San Francisco (seven), Ritz-Carlton Millenia in Singapore (eight), Hong Kong's Peninsula (nine) and the Four Seasons Chicago (10).

The survey included seven London-based hotels with the Lanesborough ranking the highest in 12th place. Claridge's (24), Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park (28), Four Seasons (36), Connaught (38), Dorchester (46) and Grosvenor House (49) were also listed.
