Next move… for someone keen for promotion

I am 28 and currently a hospitality manager at a small catering company and stuck in a rut. I wish to move into senior management and am considering doing a Master's degree in international management, but is this the right move?

The Answer Getting the right qualifications is always important, but as most people work on a Master's degree part-time while in employment, it is worth thinking about what you can do in terms of your job to forward your ambitions. You should get in touch with the major hotel groups, such as Marriott, Accor, Ramada Jarvis, Corus and De Vere. Tell them about your ambitions, experience and plans for study and ask about opportunities to develop your career. Many groups offer training and development programmes for management that will link to your studies and enable you to move ahead more quickly and gain the hands-on experience that you need.
