Openings this week: Cha Chaan Teng, i360 Belle Vue, The Jolly Fisherman on the Quay and more
A look at the latest restaurants, hotels, pubs and bars to open their doors
Cha Chaan Teng
Cha Chaan Teng in London's Holborn is a reinvention of the popular cha chaan teng cafés, which sprang up in post-war Hong Kong. In response to the elitism of Western food in high-class establishments, local kitchens and cafés got creative to produce imaginative, Western-inspired dishes at affordable prices.
The restaurant has taken the classic cha chaan teng dishes and given them a modern reworking. The drinks list features tea-inspired cocktails developed by mixologists SoulShakers and authentic teas from the Rare Tea Company. The restaurant has a heavy art deco influence, mixing marble with utilitarian and functional formica, while the central art pieces are two bespoke works from Dain, one of New York's most influential street artists.
