Plans submitted for 583-bedroom budget hotel at Heathrow

Plans have been submitted for a 583-bedroom budget hotel at Heathrow Airport, opposite Hatton Cross station.

Square Circle Developments wants to build the 20,000sqm, six-storey hotel on a site it acquired from airline caterer Gate Gourmet on the junction of the A30 and Faggs Road.

The hotel would be an opportunity for an operator - yet to be agreed - to establish a foothold at a prominent site within the Heathrow hotel market, with direct access onto the airport perimeter.

The plans have been lodged with the London Borough of Hounslow and a decision is expected by August 2011. If it gets the go-ahead, the hotel could be built within 12 months.

Martin Drage, director of letting agent Mason Drage Limited, said the site is unique. "It has direct access to Hatton Cross tube station and in addition, 30,000 or so vehicles pass by daily on the Great South West Road. We expect to see strong demand from the budget and mid-market operators in particular."
