Quintessential to buy Hanover hotel in Warrington?

Quintessential Hotels is believed to be poised to snap up the 142-bedroom Hanover hotel in Warrington, Cheshire, for about £22m.

Michael Purtill, who founded Quintessential in 2003 with backing from majority owner Alchemy Partners, said he could not comment on the speculation.

However, the group signalled in November that it planned to expand from three to 10 hotels within the next 12 months.

Investment firm Trefick, which acquired Hanover for £38m in August 2003, has already begun to dismantle the hotel and conference centre business.

In December 2004 it sold three former Hanover properties to Dawnay Shore hotels for £57m.
