Refurbishment of Feathers Hotel in Ludlow to begin imminently

The £1m refurbishment of the Grade I-listed Feathers Hotel in Ludlow is to begin imminently.

Conservation consultant Thomas Copp and designer Russ Sparke have been tasked with ensuring the work, which will incorporate all bedrooms as well as public and function spaces, is in-keeping with the heritage of the building.

Works will also include the replacement of the building's plumbing systems following a fatal outbreak of Legionnaires' disease two years ago, when the hotel was under different ownership.

Jason Hiley, group operations director for owner Crest Hotels, said: "Both Thomas and Russ will provide invaluable experience and expertise to the renovation of the Feathers.

"The building dates back to 1619 and is much loved, not only by the people of Ludlow but throughout the country and we want to preserve as much of the original features and identity as possible with the refurbishment. To help us realise our vision, we have made two high quality appointments who will help give the hotel a new lease of life for what we hope is many, many more years to come.

"We are committed to investing in the area and look forward to re-opening one of the country's most iconic hotels, recruiting a valued team locally with a variety of roles and offering a wonderful guest experience that keeps demand high further helping boost tourism and the local economy."

Work will also see a new tea room and restaurant concept introduced, which will aim to achieve two AA rosettes within six months of opening. The tea room will open by the end of May with a phased opening of other areas planned to follow.

Crest Hotels purchased the 40-bedroom property, which previously held three AA stars in December 2018, after the business fell into administration.
