Residence Inn by Marriott to open three sites in UK
Extended-stay brand Residence Inn by Marriott is to launch three UK properties this year, including two in London.
The two properties, in London Bridge and Kensington (pictured), owned by an affiliate of Starwood Capital Group, will operate under a franchise agreement with hotel management company Cycas Hospitality.
It will join the 107-suite Residence Inn in Edinburgh, which opened in 2011. A fourth Residence Inn, is scheduled for Aberdeen later this year. Owned by Aberdeen City Council, the 126-suite property will be managed by Marriott.
The two London properties are part of a four-strong portfolio of serviced apartments acquired by Starwood Capital in January 2015 after the former freehold owner went into administration. Think Apartments previously operated the businesses, which are nearing the end of a refurbishment.
Facilities within the properties include a kitchen in every suite, grocery delivery service, fitness facilities, a 24-hour market, complimentary breakfasts and free Wi-Fi.
Willmott Dixon Interiors has won the £35m contract to fit-out and refurbish the three aparthotels.
Carlton Ervin, chief development officer Europe, Marriott International, said: "Residence Inn is already the global leader in the extended-stay lodging segment, and we're excited that 2017 is set to be a pivotal year for the brand in Europe."
John Wagner, founding partner of Cycas Hospitality, said: "We are thrilled to welcome the world-class Residence Inn brand to the extended-stay sector in London and to our own expanding hotel portfolio. Delivering a first-rate guest experience is in the DNA of all our Cycas Hospitality staff and we have an excellent track record to prove it."
Cycas Hospitality will further extend its relationship with Residence Inn with the opening of a 92-suite property under the extended-stay brand in Slough in 2019. The company is the second-largest operator of serviced apartments in London, with two properties branded as Staybridge Suites, the apart-hotel brand from InterContinental Hotels Group. It also operates properties under hotel brands Holiday Inn, Crowne Plaza and Hyatt Place.
Residence Inn by Marriott is located in 730 sites in the US, Canada, central America, Europe and the Middle East.
