London hotels boosted revenue per available room (revpar) by 25.5% in the week ending 3 January, 2009, according to figures from hospitality research company STR Global.

Revpar grew to £71.85, up from £57.24 during the equivalent week of 2007.

Occupancy soared by 12 percentage points to 72.2% while average daily rate increased by 4.5% to £99.46, compared with £95.14 during the corresponding week of 2007.

In the same week, regional hotels lifted revpar by 1% (to £29.24) thanks to a 1.8 percentage point rise in occupancy which counteracted a 3.2% fall in room rate.

Edinburgh hotels outperformed the regional average with a 16.9% rise in weekly revpar to £41.45, which came on the back of a 12.6 percentage point rise in occupancy.

Revpar for the 28 days to 3 January rose by 6% in London (to £75.40) but fell in the provinces by 4.8% to £34.11.
