Rezidor to open two Park Inns in UK and Sweden

Rezidor Hotel Group has completed a deal for two new Park Inn properties in England and Sweden.

The Brussels-based hotel management company signed the UK agreement for a 135-room hotel with restaurant, bar, spa, and conference facilities near the M6 between Manchester and Liverpool as part of the new Sports Village in Leigh due to open in 2008.

The other hotel in the Hammarby Sjostad area of Sweden's capital Stockholm is scheduled to open in 2009.

"Park Inn is a new and fresh brand in the mid-market segment, and is an important part of our growth strategy," said Kurt Ritter, Rezidor president and chief executive. "These new hotels are in line with Rezidor's strategy to pursue aggressive expansion within the mid-market segment."

• In separate news, Accor's budget hotel brand Etap is set to open six new sites in the UK this year. The Etap Sheffield Arena and Cardiff opened on 1 and 5 February respectively and will be followed by sites in Leeds in March and Glasgow, Southampton and Bradford later in the year.
