Rising costs force closure of family-run Devon hotel

A family-run Devon hotel has closed after falling into administration this week.

The Riversford hotel and Riversview restaurant in Northam shut its doors for the last time on Monday.

Nigel Jarrad, who ran the property with his brother for the last 20 years, blamed rising costs and bills for the hotel's closure, reported www.northdevonjournal.co.uk.

He confirmed the Riversford has "officially closed for good", adding: "I'm currently winding the business up and sorting out all the reservations we had for Christmas and the New Year. It's very sad."

The Victorian hotel has 15 bedrooms and is expected to go on the market very soon. The Jarrad family has run it since 1971.
