Rothay Manor sold to ski chalet hotelier couple for £2.4m
The Rothay Manor hotel and restaurant in the Lake District has been acquired for £2.4m by Jamie and Jenna Shail of European chalet business Après Ski.
The 19-bedroom, Regency-era façade property is set to introduce new staff to the business, including a new head chef. It will be added to the Shails' Après Ski portfolio, which is otherwise based in Courchevel in the French Alps.
It was sold by Nigel and Gwyneth Nixon, who will now retire locally. Nigel Nixon was the second generation to own the hotel, which has been in his family since 1966.
The deal was secured by leisure property specialist Colliers International, which said that the hotel property market in the Lakes and Cumbria had had an "excellent 2015" and an "encouraging start to 2016".
Haydn Spedding, associate director, hotels agency at Colliers International, said: "[The Shails] have great experience in the hospitality industry and will continue with their ski chalet business in France. They look forward to continuing and enhancing the reputation of Rothay Manor."
