The five-AA-star, 142-bedroom the St David's hotel in Cardiff has appointed Russell Durnell as general manager, ahead of the opening of the property's new restaurant and bar.
Durnell joins the hotel, which overlooks Cardiff Bay, having most recently worked at the Savoy hotel in London as executive assistant manager, sales and marketing.
Originally from Bristol, Durnell has previously worked as operations director at the Jumeirah Group and spent a long stint in Australia, during which time he worked for four years as general manager at the Palazzo Versace on the Gold Coast and five years as director of sales and marketing at W Sydney. He has also worked in Hong Kong for Langham Hotels & Resorts.
Durnell said: "I'm thrilled to have joined the St David's team and am looking forward to bringing my experience from Australia and around the world in as we move forward with exciting new plans and ideas for the hotel."
Details of the Admiral St David restaurant - the hotel's new dining concept - will be revealed in the next few weeks.
The St David's hotel was acquired by Starwood Capital Group in 2007 from Rocco Forte Hotels and today operates within the Principal Hotel Company. It is expected to officially joined the Principal brand next year.
Durnell has replaced Graeme Barclay who has moved to Principal's sister brand De Vere as general manager of Tortworth Court in Wooten under Edge, Gloucestershire.
