Safestay Edinburgh to open in summer 2016
Premium hostel brand Safestay will be opening in Edinburgh's Old Town this summer.
The 615-bed property, which has been operated by Starboard Hotels since 2009, was sold to Safestay for £14.9m last year.
It is currently undergoing a phased refurbishment and rebranding programme while trading as Smart City Hostel by Safestay.
Safestay Edinburgh has 132 rooms and offers a combination of en-suite private and mixed bunk-bed dorm rooms.
The hostel, located off the Royal Mile, was rescued from administration in 2009. It operates as a hybrid-student/hostel model which sees some rooms leased to Edinburgh University as single-use accommodation during term time.
In the peak summer season, it is converted into multi-bed rooms.
The hostel occupies the listed building, Blackfriars House, as well as a modern extension. The interior has been designed by Black Box Interiors and pays homage to Scotland's heritage.
Safestay Edinburgh joins Safestay London Elephant & Castle, Safestay London Holland Park and Safestay York as the fourth property in the brand's expanding portfolio.
