Safestay Hostels appoints new chief operating officer

Safestay, the luxury hostel owner and operator, has appointed Nuno Sacramento as chief operating officer, ahead of the brand's planned European expansion.

Nuno joins Safestay from facilities management and construction services company Carillion, where he was head of customer operations. Prior to this, he worked for Whitbread for 16 years in senior managerial roles, working with the company's Premier Inn, Beefeater and Costa Coffee brands.

Safestay's portfolio includes hostels in London's Elephant & Castle, York, London's Holland Park and Edinburgh, and the company plans to expand to a European-wide network of hostels.

Alongside executive chairman and founder of Safestay, Larry Lipman, Nuno will run the business and have operational control over the 1,526 bed hostel group.

Nuno said: "Like the rest of industry I have been watching the rapid emergence of the contemporary hostel sector with great interest and in particular its growth in share of the UK market. I am therefore delighted to be joining Safestay at this juncture - a brand that is unique within the market and poised to go from strength to strength."

Lipman added: "I'm delighted to welcome Nuno to the company. Nuno brings with him strong F&B knowledge which is a key focus for us in 2017 as we build on the revenue increases we have made. I am confident he will be a strong leader of the business and we are all looking forward to working alongside him."
