Schroders to focus on UK hotel market following Algonquin acquisition

Schroders is set to build up a UK-focused hotel portfolio following its acquisition of Algonquin earlier this year.

"We target to launch at least a UK-focused vehicle and a pan-European vehicle," said Frédéric De Brem, former Algonquin CEO and now head of Schroders' real estate hotels, speaking to Hotel News Now.

UK-based real estate investment trust Schroders acquired the hotel investment and management company in May.

Algonquin manages 43 hotels in Europe either through Algonquin's own brands or through franchise agreements with brands including Marriott, Hyatt, Radisson and Sofitel, although currently none in the UK.
