Sharrow Bay becomes Cumbria's first Springboard-accredited business

Sharrow Bay on the shores of Ullswater in the Lake District has become the first hotel in Cumbria to be accredited by the Springboard charity for its work experience training.

Springboard runs the INSPIRE scheme, the hospitality industry's quality assurance scheme for work experience. To gain INSPIRE accreditation, businesses must undergo rigorous assessment, follow a definitive step-by-step guide and prove that they offer exceptional, first-class work experience.

Although a number of Cumbrian businesses participate in the scheme, Sharrow Bay is the first in the county to receive accreditation.

Two students, Layla Wells and Clare Harbot, came to Sharrow Bay on school placements, and both now work in Sharrow Bay's pâtisserie department under head pastry chef Paula Richardson.

Oliver Smith, hotel director for Sharrow Bay, said: "We are very proud to be the first business in Cumbria to receive accreditation from Springboard for its INSPIRE scheme. We have always been conscientious in providing the young people who come to us with the best possible work experience and so to have that formally acknowledged is wonderful. We are very pleased with the progress both girls are making and they are very much on our radar to join our team permanently when they achieve their qualifications."
