Sheffield United signs Millennium & Copthorne hotels

Millennium & Copthorne (M&C) is to manage the new hotel at Sheffield United FC's Bramall Lane stadium.

Work is expected to start on the 149-room four-star property in the New Year and open in autumn 2008.

The eight-storey hotel will be part of a multimillion-pound development, which will also include a restaurant, executive suites and a gym.

An M&C spokesman said: "We are delighted to have added to our Premiership portfolio offering quality accommodation near high-profile football clubs and also to be opening a hotel in Yorkshire for the first time."

Sheffield United chief executive Jason Rockett added the deal was a "significant step" in the regeneration of the city and Sharrow area.

M&C already has four properties at and around football stadiums: the Copthorne hotel and the Millennium hotel in Chelsea Village, London; the Millennium hotel at Reading FC's Madejski stadium; the Copthorne hotel near Manchester's Old Trafford stadium.
