Sheraton Grand Edinburgh names new executive chef

The five-star Sheraton Grand Hotel & Spa in Edinburgh has appointed Craig Hart as its new executive chef.

Hart will oversee the 269-bedroom hotel's One Square restaurant, which focuses on modern British food. He will also help develop the restaurant's existing offer, such as the Dining at the Pass experience, which offers four people the chance to eat in the kitchen itself.

The role will also involve catering for the hotel's banqueting facility, which can include up to 500 people for dinner or 1,000 people for a reception, and is known for its theatrical touches such as blowtorching desserts at-table.

Hart was previously head chef at Gleneagles Hotel in Perthshire, where he worked in the AA-Rosette Strathearn Restaurant, and the Mediterranean-inspired Deseo restaurant. He also helped spearhead a new menu in the new Dormy Club House, ahead of the golf tournament the Ryder Cup, scheduled for later this year.

He has also worked at the Golf Hotel in St Andrews, the Champany Inn near Linlithgow, and as a chef de partie at the Sheraton Grand Hotel & Spa itself.

Hart takes over the 100-seat restaurant from Malcolm Webster, who was the original head chef when the restaurant launched in 2012. Webster is moving on to the Sheraton Dubai Tower Sheikh Zayed Road.

Tristan Nesbitt, general manager at the Sheraton Grand Hotel & Spa commented that Hart would help the hotel build on its existing culinary reputation.

He said: "We are delighted to welcome Craig back to the Sheraton Grand Hotel & Spa team. The position of executive chef is an important and dynamic role for the UK's flagship Sheraton."

The hotel, which first opened in 1985, also has a new bar and restaurant, called the Link@Sheraton, plus meetings, events and function rooms. There is also a spa, a pool, a newly-refurbished gym, and views of Edinburgh Castle.

Operating in over 70 countries, Sheraton is owned by Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide, which has nearly 1,200 properties across 100 countries. Its other brands include St. Regis, W, and Le Méridien.
