Sheraton Grand Hotel & Spa relaunches in Edinburgh
The five-star, 269-bedroom Sheraton Grand Hotel & Spa in Edinburgh will be relaunched on Thursday following a multimillion-pound refurbishment.
Owned by the Hotels Corporation of Edinburgh, the entire property has been renovated over a two-year period, during which time the hotel remained open.
The improvements mark part of a worldwide revitalisation of the Sheraton brand - which currently number 417 hotels - involving a $6b investment in opening new hotels and renovating existing properties.
Hoyt Harper, global brand leader for Sheraton, said the worldwide improvement of the brand had taken three-and-a-half years and had seen the removal of 80 underperforming and less-strategic hotels from the portfolio as well as the addition of 80 new hotels.
"We are very excited about the relaunch of the Edinburgh property, which is now our flagship hotel in the UK," Harper said. "No part of the property has remained untouched."
Located in the heart of the city next to the Edinburgh International Conference Centre, the Sheraton Grand Hotel & Spa incorporates a new informal brasserie-style restaurant, One Square, overseen by the hotel's executive chef, Malcolm Webster. There is also a new dedicated meetings and events complex, with the Edinburgh Suite offering seating for 500 capacity - the largest hotel function space in the city.
Other features of the hotel include One Spa, a six-storey space with 17 treatment rooms, swimming pool and gym, and the Link@Sheraton, a social hub where guests can use the complimentary Wi-Fi and PC workstations.
Harper said that there were currently 100 Sheraton hotels in the pipeline across 15 countries and he hoped to see more openings in the UK to join the existing four Sheraton hotels in London, Heathrow (two) and Edinburgh. Key openings this year include the world's largest Sheraton hotel, a 4,000-bedroom property in Macau.
Sheraton is the largest brand owned by Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide.
