Sleeperz Hotels to open in £1b Dundee waterfront development
Budget brand Sleeperz Hotels is to open its fourth UK hotel above the new £22m redeveloped railway station in Dundee.
The 120-bedroom property will be located in a curved building overlooking the River Tay and the new waterfront plaza, adjacent to the new V&A at Dundee museum. It will create 30 jobs and is being developed in partnership with Dundee City Council, as part of a £1b regeneration of the city's 8km waterfront and railway station.
David Myers, chief executive of Sleeperz Hotels, said: "Sleeperz Hotels is an innovative fast growing company with ambitious plans to expand our portfolio of UK lifestyle hotels and is delighted to secure such an exciting development.
"Dundee's waterfront regeneration is one of the biggest of its kind ever to take place in Western Europe and will transform the city as a leisure, tourism and retail destination. Visitors to the city will benefit from our distinctive brand of stylish contemporary rooms and ultra-convenient location at affordable prices."
Since opening its first UK hotel in Cardiff in 2008, close to Cardiff station, Sleeperz Hotels has aimed to create a modern version of the classic British railway hotel, with free wi-fi, laptop safes and wet rooms in every bedroom. An all-day brasserie menu is available in the lounge and bar.
The Cardiff hotel was followed by the opening of a 98-bedroom property in Newcastle in 2012, with the launch of a new rooms-only sister brand Cityroomz in Edinburgh in May last year.
