Budget hotel group Sleeperz Hotels will open its second UK property, in Newcastle, tomorrow.
The 98-bedroom, six-storey hotel has been built on the former site of Parcel Works, less than five minutes walk from Newcastle's Central Station.
Described as a "premium budget" offering, the hotel offers wet rooms with under-floor heating, Villeroy & Boch bathroom fittings, and free Wi-Fi and local telephone calls. There is also a brasserie serving hot food throughout the day. Rates start from £60.
David Myers, chief executive of Sleeperz Hotels, said: "We have introduced a completely new and different product to the north east hotel scene today and one that is perfectly positioned for business and leisure tourism markets in the current economy."
"While we have comprised on the size of the bedrooms - measuring 15sqm - the overall quality of the fittings and service throughout the hotel is superior to other budget brands."
Sleeperz opened its first UK hotel - a 74-bedroom property - in Cardiff in 2008. The company's plans to expand will be financed by a £7m fund, with investment from Andre Hoffmann and Connection Capital. The debt finance for the Newcastle hotel is being provided by The Co-Operative Bank.
"We now have the fundamentals in place to drive the development agenda forward in a positive direction," explained Myers. "We are currently in a pre-planning stage regarding sites in London and Liverpool, as well as looking at other locations in Birmingham and Bristol."
