Splendid Hospitality Group snaps up fourth York hotel

The Splendid Hospitality Group has acquired the 91-bedroom Ibis York Centre hotel to add to its portfolio of three other properties in the city.

Located close to York Station, the property joins the Splendid-owned Grand Hotel & Spa, Hotel Indigo York and Holiday Inn Express York. It was bought from Algonquin, a French-based company which owns 41 hotels, for an undisclosed sum.

The hotel, which features a café, bar and meeting room, will continue to operate under AccorHotels' budget brand. Splendid plans to invest £1.5m in improving the property over the next two years.

Stuart Bailey, chief executive of the Splendid Hospitality Group, described the acquisition as "a strategic" one for the company. "The Ibis York Centre hotel boasts one of the most central locations in York making it equally suitable for both the business and leisure travellers."
