St Martin's on the Isle hotel for sale at £2.5m

St Martin's on the Isle, one of the leading hotels on the Scilly Isles, has been put on the market for £2.5m.

The 30-bedroom hotel, which is a member of Pride of Britain Hotels, is situated on St Martin's, the third largest of the Scilly Isles.

Owned by Peter and Penny Sykes since 1993, the hotel is situated on the beach and enjoys a private quay overlooking Tean Sound and Tresco. Its three-AA-rosette restaurant, Tean, held a Michelin star briefly in 2007-08 under the then head chef Kenny Atkinson.

It is accessible from Penzance on the mainland via a daily ferry service and hourly helicopter service during the summer months. Flights from Bristol, Exeter, Newquay and Southampton are available to St Mary's, the administrative centre of the Scilly Isles, which is situated two miles south of St Martin's. Ferries or water taxis transfer guests between the two islands.

Simon Stevens, director of Christie + Co, which is handling the sale of the property, says the hotel has successfully operated as a seasonal and popular tourist destination under its current ownership.

"St Martin's unique environment and visitor experience is complemented by the hotel's fine dining and personal service that sets it aside from its competitors," he said.

The hotel is designed to appear as a small hamlet of cottages, and planning permission has been approved for four new two-bedroom apartments within the grounds. Planning permission also exists for the conversion of the hotel to provide six two-bedroom apartments, five three-bedroom apartments and four four-bedroom apartments.

"With its reputation and the advantage of the planning permissions, this represents an excellent opportunity for a forward-thinking individual or existing operator who is prepared to continue to invest in the hotel's future potential," Stevens added.
