Stapleford Park closes for refurbishment and push for Michelin star

Stapleford Park Hotel is closing for the first time in its 20-year history to undergo major refurbishment.

The Melton Mowbray country house hotel and sport estate in Leicestershire will close its main house from 3 February to 6 March, as its owners undertake a £1.7m overhaul of the property.

Stapleford Park will be adding three suites to its 55 bedrooms, renovating the Grand Hall, the main kitchen, meeting rooms and other public areas. Ultimately its owners hope the investment in the kitchen, the first since 1988, will enable the business to build on its 2 AA Rosettes for dining with a first Michelin star for executive head chef Wayne Vickerage.

The hotel's spa, gymnasium, golf club, pavilion restaurant and pool will remain open during the refurbishment. The hotel will celebrate its 21st birthday next year.
