Starboard acquires two Holiday Inn Express hotels for £11.5m
Hotel owner, developer and operator Starboard Hotels has acquired Holiday Inn Express hotels in both Tamworth, Staffordshire, and Ramsgate, Kent.
The hotels were marketed by Christie & Co for offers in excess of £11.5m.
Both will continue trading under the Holiday Inn Express brand and will be operated by Starboard under franchise from IHG. Starboard also plans to invest in both hotels.
The 120-bedroom Holiday Inn Express Tamworth, built in 2010, is a lakeside hotel situated on the outskirts of the town centre, while the 105-bedroom Holiday Inn Express Ramsgate Minster is an art deco listed building.
Starboard Hotels owns and operates franchised hotels, specialising in small to medium size UK-based hotels. The acquisitions take the company's total portfolio to 13 hotels, of which five are Holiday Inn Express-branded properties owned and operated by Starboard, on top of hotels in Greenock, Burnley and Leeds Armouries.
The company also owns and operates the Best Western Carlton Hotel Blackpool; Days Inn Wetherby; Ibis hotels in Sheffield, Birmingham, Leicester, Plymouth and Gatwick; and operates the Best Western Plus Epping Forest.
Paul Callingham, managing director of Starboard Hotels, said: "We are delighted to be expanding further and welcome the two Holiday Inn Express properties and their teams into the Starboard family. Both are great hotels with dedicated teams in superb locations and with excellent reputations, which we will continue to develop. We know and understand the brand and believe we can add significant value to the hotel offering in both Tamworth and Ramsgate."
