StreetSmart and SleepSmart raise £465,000 for homeless
London restaurant and hotel charities StreetSmart and SleepSmart raised £465,000 during their 2010 Christmas campaign.
More than 540 restaurants and 20 hotels in 18 cities throughout the UK took part in the annual fundraising campaign last November and December, including those of Michelin-starred chefs such as Gordon Ramsay, Giorgio Locatelli, Tom Kitchin and Fergus Henderson.
The highest earners among the restaurants were Gordon Ramsay's Plane Food at Heathrow's T5, Harvey Nichols in Leeds and London, Selfridges and Nobu. On the hotel side, the Landmark and Hyatt Regency London - the Churchill raised the most.
StreetSmart and SleepSmart raise money for the homeless by asking diners and hotel guests to add £1 to their bill. Sponsored by Deutsche Bank, which covers all of the charities' administration costs, all proceeds are used for projects supporting people back to employment and sustainable, independent living.
Since its inception, StreetSmart has raised more than £4.6m to help the homeless.
