Swallow Hotels buys Corus cast-offs

Swallow Hotels, part of the London Inn Group (LIG), has bought eight hotels from Corus for £32.9m.

Corus owner Malayan United Industries (MUI) said the hotels were sold because they didn't fit the brand, despite all being profitable last year.

MUI said it would maintain hotels as its core business but would be looking for other properties to move forward.

Sale proceeds will be used to pay off debt, said MUI.

London Inn Group, which trades principally as London & Edinburgh Inns, has 75 hotels with in excess of 3,500 bedrooms in its hotel and inns division. Swallow Hotels accounts for the majority of properties in the division.

LIG also operates managed and tenanted pubs in England and Scotland as well as a number of unbranded restaurants.
