Based at the University of Roehampton in the south west of the capital and due to open next year, the college intends to recruit 50 students, aged 18 to 24, for its first intake of its three-and-a-half year BBA course in hospitality management. Around one third of students are expected to come from the UK, with the rest from overseas, particularly from France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Thailand and Australia.
Full time study at Glion London will cost £17,575 per semester for undergraduate students and £12,195 for postgraduate students. The BBA hospitality management course is made up of seven six-month long semesters, of which two are spent on internships for which the students are paid. Scholarships for UK students will be available on a case-by-case basis.
Arie Van der Spek, chief executive of Glion London, justified the high fees by saying that they are competitive for a private university. "Unlike other university programmes which often only have classes for a few hours a week, Glion students are being taught full-time. Similar to typical business working hours, Glion students can expect to attend 25 to 30 hours of class per week, plus additional study outside of the classroom."
"The value of a Glion education can also be measured by the reputation our graduates enjoy among industry leaders. In fact, 86% of Glion students are employed or have multiple offers upon graduation and 78% of Glion students go on to be managers, general manager or directors in their career. "
Van der Spek went on to say that the college already has close connections with the UK hospitality industry with international hotel brands such as InterContintental, Four Seasons and Hilton Worldwide currently offering students work placements here.
"We will encourage the UK students to go overseas for their internships, while the international students may stay in the UK," he explained.
