Thistle Hotels is to spend £7m refurbishing its Tower hotel to transform it into its second deluxe Guoman property in the capital.

The gym, bar, restaurant and both the reception and upper foyers will be completed by the end of this month. The hotel's 801-bedrooms as part of the second development phase will be finished at the end of next year.

Sanjay Nijhawan, general manager of the Tower, said: "The Tower is a prestige property and its unique location makes it a natural addition to the Guoman portfolio."

Guoman is Thistle's luxury brand, which first came to London with the opening of the refurbished Cumberland hotel at Marble Arch in autumn 2004.
