Hotels in the North-east saw revenue per available room (revpar) decline by 2.7% during the month of September.
Revpar was £58.38 in September 2007, compared with £59.97 in the corresponding month of 2006, according to figures from hotel benchmarking service The Bench.
Occupancy grew by 1.8 percentage points to 82.2% but average room rate fell by 4.8% to £71.02, compared with £74.59 in September 2006.

The Bench - which is partnered with US firm Smith Travel Research - provides online benchmarking data for in excess of 34,000 hotels in more than 400 markets.
The online service allows users to track their performance in average room rate, occupancy and revpar in a variety of formats and to measure their daily performance against their competitors.
