The Gold Rill hotel in Grasmere, Cumbria, has been sold to hoteliers Richard and Mandy Webb.

The couple, who own the Grand and its sister hotel Grand 22, both in Lytham St Annes, bought the hotel for an undisclosed sum from Paul and Catherine Jewsbury.

The Webb's plan to name the hotel Grand @ Grasmere to fit in with the branding of their other properties. They said that they planned to invest in a refurbishment of the hotel, with a focus on technology.

Richard Webb said: "The Gold Rill is situated in a fabulous area nestled in the Lakeland fells so is a popular retreat for tourists and walkers.

"To expand the business, which we started with the Grand, I felt the time was right. We plan on taking time to get to know the hotel, its staff and customers before we make any changes but we expect to carry out some refurbishment and redecoration in the near future. It's an exciting time for us and we're looking forward to the challenge."
