Tim Helliwell to head up Barclays hotel team

Tim Helliwell has been appointed head of the hotels team at Barclays following the announcement that Rod Taylor is to retire at the end of the year.

Helliwell will lead a team of four relationship directors who deal exclusively with customers in the hotel sector.

The team provides debt capital advice, construction and acquisition finance to publicly quoted and privately-owned hotels groups.

Helliwell, who has been at Barclays for 16 years and has worked exclusively in the hotels team for the past five years, said he was "very honoured" to succeed Taylor.

"Our transactional expertise in this sector is second-to-none: over the past 12 months we have completed over €1.5b of new deals, ranging from five-star deluxe hotels across Europe and refurbishments of iconic central London venues, to family-owned properties across the UK and Ireland," he said.

"I look forward to taking up this new challenge whilst continuing to work closely with my current clients."

Barclays also announced that Neil Parry has been appointed as the new head of Hospitality and Leisure. The team provides banking services to the travel; sports; hotels; gaming; leisure operators; and licensed trade sectors. Helliwell will report to Parry.

Parry paid tribute to Taylor as he welcomed Helliwell to the role. "Tim has played an integral part in the success of the hotels team over the past five years and has an excellent understanding of the sector," he said. "Rod's dedication to Barclays has been outstanding over the past 40 years. We wish him all the best as he enters retirement."
