Tower of London CitizenM to open this month

CitizenM's 370-room Tower of London hotel will be opening on 11 July, its second London hotel and biggest property to date.

The Dutch hotel chain already has one 192-room hotel at Bankside, which opened in 2012. Balfour Beatty was behind the construction of the £30m hotel, which was originally expected to open in autumn 2014.

The hotel, opposite the Tower of London and above Tower Hill station, has an eighth-floor terrace bar and a new Coffee M concept, serving hot drinks and pastries to go at the front of the property.

Like its other hotels there are banks of self check-in stations on the 700 sq m ground floor space. There is also an outdoor terrace at the rear, and artists such as Julian Opie, Dominic Harris, Peter Lamb and Studio Drift have created original works for the hotel.

The group opened its first hotel in Amsterdam in 2008 and dispensed with traditional check-in desks and on-site restaurants, offering instead small but hi-tech rooms and large communal areas. Room prices are based on a cheaper rate the earlier customers book, starting at £109 a night up to a maximum of £269.

Rooms are 17 sq m and feature superking beds, rainshowers, free Wi-Fi and movies, and iPads to control the TV, mood lighting and temperature. Guests can also stream content from their own devices to the TV.

A third 246-room London CitizenM is due to open in Shoreditch in September, with more music-inspired décor, and a fourth 198-bedroom hotel at St Paul's is also expected.
