Travelodge to open 19 hotels in 2016
Budget brand Travelodge has announced the opening of 19 hotels across the UK in 2016, with an investment value of £140m.
The expansion of the brand is expected to create 450 new jobs and take the group's number of hotels up to 542.
Locations for the new hotels aimed at corporate customers include London, Glasgow and Bristol; while leisure focused hotels will open in Poole, Weston-Super-Mare, Bicester and Thetford. Travelodge has also identified a further 250 locations for development in the UK.
Today's (11 January) announcement from Travelodge included its first three new hotel signings of the year. The firm has signed agreements to build and open hotels at London Acton, London Wood Green and Oxford.
Peter Gowers, Travelodge chief executive, said: "The value hotel market continues to go from strength to strength, boosted by ever more cost-conscious businesses and the growth in independent leisure travel.
"To meet the growing demand Travelodge is continuing to invest in upgrading and expanding our network. These 19 new hotels, many with our new bar café restaurants, mark another important step in our drive to deliver greater quality for our customers."
He added: "Our recently completed £100m hotel modernisation programme has raised quality levels and led to strong growth from business customers to complement our traditional strength in leisure travel."
The remaining 15 hotels, across the country, include: Andover, Bristol Filton, Bicester, Chatham, Derby, East Grinstead, Glasgow Queen Street, King's Lynn, Peterhead, Poole, Sale, Stirling, Stockport, Thetford and Weston-Super-Mare.
