TRI HotStats: monthly European hotel figures

London hotels enjoyed a bright start to the year by boosting profitability by 20.2%, according to the latest HotStats survey of 10 European countries.

Hotels in the UK capital increased total gross operating profit per available room (goppar) to €63.67 in January 2010, a sum 35% higher than nearest rival Paris, at €41.35.

London hotels benefited from the highest occupancy (of 73.5%), the lowest payroll costs (28% of total revenue) and the third highest room rate, of €145.31, after Paris and Amsterdam,

Other cities that saw a big rise in profitability incude Vienna (+54.9%), Berlin (+33.9%), and Warsaw (+29.3%).

Barcelona hotels, however, were practically running at a loss, with goppar falling by 60% to just €0.84.

The figures are compiled each month by Tri Hospitality Consulting.
