Trump Turnberry bans Irn-Bru

The Trump Turnberry resort in Ayrshire has banned Irn-Bru due to concerns about its carpets.

The Ayrshire Post has reported that the hotel refused to serve the orange soft drink, which is particularly popular in Scotland, at an event, despite other soft drinks being available.

General manager Ralph Porciani told the paper: "We can't have it staining when to replace the ballroom carpet would be £500,000 alone. We have villas here with Irn-Bru stains in the carpets which I can't let."

The five-red-AA-star, 192-bedroom property completed an eight-month, £200m refurbishment in June 2016.

US president Donald Trump bought the Turnberry resort in 2014, renaming it Trump Turnberry. Ahead of his inauguration as president he resigned as a director of SLC Turnberry and Golf Recreation Scotland, which owns and operates Trump Turnberry and Trump International Golf Club Scotland, which owns the course and hotel at the Menie Estate in Balmedie, Aberdeenshire. However, his children, Eric, Ivanka and Donald Jr, have retained their directorships.
