UK hotel performance reaches all-time high

Regional UK hotel performance is at an all-time high, according to professional services firm Deloitte.

Marvin Rust, hospitality managing partner for Deloitte said hotel performance had recovered the ground lost to 11 September and the foot-and-mouth crisis.

"Although the industry is expected to face more challenging marketing conditions with the downturn in UK consumer spending, the figures show the customer is still prepared to travel and hoteliers' marketing efforts are successful," Rust said.

Liverpool showed the most significant improvement with revpar up 18% year-on-year from £39 to £45. The biggest winner in the airport hotel market was Gatwick where average room rates rose from £60 to £66.

The HotelBenchmark Survey tracks the performance of more than 6,500 hotels and 1.2 million rooms every month.
