UK hotels enjoy a record-breaking May despite the rain
UK Hotels enjoyed their best May since the millennium despite it being the wettest since 1979, according to two new reports.
PKF's May figures show London hotels boosted revenue per available room (revpar) by 15.2% to £92.98, thanks to a 7.5 percentage point rise in occupancy to 82.3% and a 7.1% hike in room rate to £112.98.
The provinces also did well, increasing revpar by 6% to £52.48 on the back of a 4.2 percentage point increase in occupancy to 74.9% and a 1.7% increase in room rate to £70.10.
Figures from TRI Hospitality Consulting showed a similar picture, albeit with a slightly lower rate of growth.
According to TRI's HotStats, London hotels increased revpar by 12.3% to £87.53, with occupancy and room rate growing 4.1 percentage points to 85% and 6.9% to £102.96, respectively.
Regional hotels boosted revpar by 6% to £52.13, occupancy by 1.7 percentage points to 73.7% and room rate by 3.6% to £70.73.
Jonathan Langston, managing director at TRI, said: "If the performance in May is repeated in the months ahead, this year is set to be one of the best on record for the hotel industry in terms of revpar,"
