Von Essen closes £6m deal for Hunstrete House

Luxury hotel group Von Essen has completed a £6m deal for its latest acquisition, Hunstrete House near Bath. The 25-bedroom hotel in 100 acres of grounds will become part of the Von Essen private collection.

Andrew Onreat, Von Essen's creative director, told Caterer: "We're currently looking at refurbishment options. It's a fine hotel, but it needs a good head office and management structure to get it back to where it should be again. We're also hoping to cultivate an organic garden and the deer park for venison to supply the hotel and other nearby properties."

A culinary school will also be added for guests and training in-house chefs, under the auspices of the group's executive head chef James Parkinson.

The acquisition takes Von Essen's portfolio to 24, including Cliveden in Berkshire and the Royal Crescent in Bath.
