Weekly regional revpar falls by nearly 14%

Hotel revenue per available room (revpar) dropped by 4.5% in London and by 13.7% in the provinces in the week ending 9 May 2009, according to figures from hospitality research company STR Global.

London revpar fell to £86.79, down from £90.90 in the equivalent week of 2008. Although occupancy increased by 0.5 percentage points to 75.9%, this was undercut by a 5.1% decrease in average room rate to £114.31.

In the same week, regional revpar declined to £41.26, down from £47.81 in the corresponding week of 2008. Occupancy slid by 4.2 percentage points to 62.5% while average room rate dropped by 8% to £66.

Cardiff hotels fared better, posting a revpar fall of 8.8% (to £42.99) on the back of a 0.5 percentage point fall in occupancy and an 8.2% decline in average room rate.

Hotel revpar for the 28 days to 9 May fell by 10% in London (to £91.56) and by 16.1% in the regions, to £43.37. Cardiff hotels posted a 15.6% fall in revpar to £41.83.
