Weekly revpar falls by more than 10% in the regions
Hotel revenue per available room (revpar) fell by 6.7% in London and by 10.4% in the provinces in the week ending 8 August 2009, according to figures from hospitality research company STR Global.
London revpar fell to £102.83, down from £110.25 in the equivalent week of 2008. Occupancy fell by 0.5 percentage points, to 86.4%, while average room rate shrank by 6.2% to £119.01.
In the same week, regional revpar fell to £44.41 (2008: £49.55) as occupancy slipped by 1.6 percentage points (to 69.9%) and average room rate decreased by 8.3% to £63.55. Manchester hotels fared worse, with revpar falling by 10.5% to £37.44. Although occupancy in Manchester grew by 1.7 percentage points to 62.9%, average room rates slumped by 13% to £59.49.
Hotel revpar for the 28 days to 8 August declined by 9.8% in London (to £110.85) and by 11% in the provinces, to £46.86. In Manchester, revpar fell more sharply, by 19.1% to £41.48.
