Wetherspoon opens new pub and hotel in Newport

Pub operator JD Wetherspoon has opened its new pub and hotel in Newport, creating 70 jobs in the process.

The 29-bedroomed Queen's hotel opened on Friday (17 July) after a £900,000 refurbishment on the site of the disused Walkabout hotel and bar in Bridge Street.

The pub is managed by Russell Sorrell and the hotel side of the operation, known as the Wetherspoon Lodge, is managed by Jon Lee.

Sorrell said: "The Queen's Hotel is a well known building and I believe that it will once again play an important part in Newport's social scene."
