Whitbread launches Cookhouse and Pub concept

Hospitality giant Whitbread has launched its new Cookhouse and Pub concept alongside the Premier Inn Birmingham Oldbury.

The Costa Coffee and Premier Inn operator aims to roll out the concept and is on course to open sites in in Holystone in Tyneside, Ripley in Derbyshire and Kilmarnock over the next few months.

Cookhouse and Pub is described as "an informal, all-day casual restaurant, with the relaxed vibe and affordability of a pub".

Sarah Tinsley, head of strategy and innovation for Whitbread Restaurants, said: "We feel this is a new, bold and revolutionary concept in the pub restaurant market which we hope will be welcomed with open arms."

The 237-cover Oldbury site has been developed by York and Leeds-based designers JMDA, and includes a 41-cover bar and a large open kitchen. It mixes fresh colours with natural materials, and features solo dining booths, large feature tables and semi-private dining areas.

The new restaurant and pub serves freshly prepared ‘grazers' and oven-fired flatbreads, as well as grills, lighter options and brunches, pub classics, Sunday roasts and desserts. The drinks list offers a range of craft beers, cask ales and ciders, alongside draught wines and cocktails on tap or by the carafe.
