Who's Cooking Dinner raises £330,000 for leukaemia charity

The organisers of the Who's Cooking Dinner charity event, which fundraises for the specialist leukaemia centre at Hammersmith Hospital, raised £330,000 at a dinner featuring 20 of London's top chefs at the Four Seasons Hotel London on Park Lane on Monday night.

The event, which saw 20 chefs prepare a meal for 200 diners, is fronted by restaurateur Chris Corbin and was the brainchild of chef Peter Gordon.

The chefs, who were asked to create a four-course meal for one table of 10 people with accompanying wines, included Clare Smyth from Restaurant Gordon Ramsay, Claude Bosi from Hibiscus, Marcus Wareing from Marcus Wareing at the Berkeley, Phil Howard from the Square, Chris and Jeff Galvin, Jason Atherton of Pollen Street Social and Pierre Koffmann of Koffmann's.

The evening culminated in a charity auction, in which many of the chefs were auctioned off to cook a dinner for 10 in the home of the highest bidder.

Last night's fundraising brings the total raised by the Who's Cooking Dinner events to more than £4m.

THE STORY BEHIND THE DINNER
In 1994, in Australia, Peter Gordon's sister, Tracey, was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia. Later that year, Gordon donated bone marrow to her. On the opposite side of the world, having also been diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukaemia, restaurateur Chris Corbin was undergoing a bone marrow transplant in Hammersmith Hospital.

Following his sister's full recovery, Gordon decided that he wanted to raise money to help similar families battling with leukaemia and he joined forces with Corbin to create the dinner and make it an annual event.
