Wilmslow hotel set for £1.8m extension

The team behind Best Western Plus Pinewood on Wilmslow hotel, in south Manchester, has announced plans for a £1.8m extension of the property.

Work will include 19 additional bedrooms and a face-lift for the hotel's main entrance. The new en-suite bedrooms will include a wet room or walk-in shower and Juliet balconies.

The renovation will create 10 jobs.

This news follows on from last year's £1.5m investment which involved the addition of 12 en-suite bedrooms, increased lounge space on the ground floor and the launch of an 85-seat ground floor restaurant, One Eighty, which also generated 17 jobs.

Hotel general manager John Scott said: "The hotel's performance has been strong in the last 12 months and the response from hotel guests and local residents to last year's upgrade has been hugely positive. We want to capitalise on that now with the addition of more guest rooms to allow us to accommodate larger business events and conferences, as well as local weddings and banquets.

"By re-facing the old 1970s structure and tying it into the contemporary look of the new extension, the outside of the hotel will be completely transformed and will complement perfectly the charming character of the older, original house."

Managing director Tim Rumney added: "This is a very exciting time for the business.

"Not only have we significantly improved sales and profit, the team has done a fantastic job in looking after our customers, improving the hotel's reputation and achieving excellent guest feedback.

"In addition to gaining rave reviews from customers for the improvements made to the public areas and bedrooms, the hotel has also secured an AA rosette for its restaurant and established a strong reputation for the quality of the food and service.

"This additional development will build on all of these successes, allowing us to offer more facilities to both the local market as well as our conference and business guests."

The hotel said planning permission was granted by Cheshire East Council and the work will get underway next month.
