York, Edinburgh and Liverpool's hotels make Trivago top 50
York, Edinburgh and Liverpool's hotels have all made it into the top 50 of hotel comparison website Trivago's Reputation Ranking 2015.
Trivago's rankings use an index, which is based on over 140 million hotel reviews and ratings aggregated from 200 booking sites worldwide.
Only hotels with at least 60 reviews and with at least 130 hotels were included.
While York, Edinburgh and Liverpool were 35th, 45th and 48th respectively, Manchester was 87th and Birmingham was 96th.
London failed to make the list at all.
The top-rated city was Sanya in China (index score: 86.94%), where the average price per night of a double room during 2014 was £86. Second was Hanoi in Vietnam (84.76%) where the average price was £39, and third was Sorrento in Italy (84.7%), where the average price was £122.
Sanya, on Hainan island, has become an increasingly popular tourist destination in recent years, thanks to its tropical climate and a number of high-rise resort hotels.
Hotels in York were praised for their character, comfortable rooms, good food and excellent service. Guests in Edinburgh praised hotels for their location and spacious rooms, while hotels in Liverpool were praised for their atmosphere and attractive interiors.
The average price in York was £102, while it was £121 in Edinburgh and £85 in Liverpool.
Manchester and Birmingham, which commanded an average price of £103 and £75 respectively, were criticised for having relatively poor value for money and relatively poor quality rooms.
London, which usually finds itself placed at the bottom of the list, is consistently criticised for its small but expensive hotel rooms, according to Trivago.
