Yorkshire celebrates its achievements in tourism and hospitality
The York region beat off competition from Sheffield, Doncaster, Leeds and Rotherham to scoop five awards at the recent White Rose tourism awards in Yorkshire.
The White Rose Awards, which were held at the Royal Armouries in Leeds, were hosted by guest presenters including Christa Ackroyd (BBC presenter), The Lord Archbishop of York Dr John Sentamu, Jo Willoughby (World Champion Sitskier), and David Lonsdale (Heartbeat actor).
York won awards in five of the categories, including Guest Accommodation of the Year, which went to Cundall Lodge Farm in Cundall, York. The Hotel of the Year award with under 50 bedrooms went to the Swinton Park hotel in Masham, while the Hotel of the Year with 35 bedrooms and over was awarded to Best Western's Premier Mount Pleasant Hotel in Doncaster.
Ye Old Sun Inn in Colton in Tadcaster won the Yorkshire Pub of the Year award, with Scarborough's Crown Spa Hotel winning the Sustainable Tourism Award.
The Yorkshire Life Food and Wine Awards - also took place this week, with food critic Jay Rayner presenting the winners with their accolades.
Rudding Park Hotel was named Hotel of the Year - in Harrogate was named Hotel of the Year, while The Box Tree in Ilkley, which was one of the first kitchens Marco Pierre White worked in, was named Best Restaurant.
