James Blunt acquires the Carpenter’s Arms from Wren Pubs

English singer-songwriter James Blunt has purchased the Carpenter’s Arms in London’s Hammersmith from Wren Pubs.

Blunt has also been the owner of the Fox and Pheasant in London’s Chelsea since 2017.

The Carpenter’s Arms was acquired by Wren Pubs in July 2024 and underwent an extensive refurbishment across the bar area, private dining room and private garden, with sales doubling over the past two years.

The 19th-century pub has now been sold to Blunt, who will work closely with Fox and Pheasant manager Toby Milne to oversee operations.

Jack Greenall, founder of Wren Pubs, said: “We are delighted to be handing over the Carpenter’s Arms to such excellent operators of one of the best pubs in West London. This sale was a difficult decision for us, but we are so pleased with what we have achieved to date. It has been an honour to play a role in such a wonderful community and getting to know the locals.

“Having worked hard to bring this beloved venue back to life, it felt like the perfect moment to pass the pub into new ownership. I am looking forward to the Carpenter’s Arms continuing to receive the attention it deserves – I couldn’t think of a better team to continue its legacy.”

Greenall added: “We are thrilled to be working on our latest project at 7 Sloane Square, and continuing to focus our efforts on the Surprise and the Walmer Castle as well as exploring further opportunities, ideally with bedrooms in London.”

Blunt commented: “It’s an honour to be the custodian of this beautiful and important local landmark. I know how much it means to the residents, and I hope we can serve them as well as they have been by Jack and his team. I look forward to seeing you there!”

Greenall first took over the Surprise in London’s Chelsea in May 2021 and in November 2023 he relaunched the Walmer Castle in London’s Notting Hill, which for a time belonged to David Beckham and film director Guy Ritchie (2018-2022) and later London nightclub owner and businessman Piers Adam (2022-2023).

In March this year, the publican acquired the former Botanist site, 7 Sloane Square, in London’s Chelsea.

He started his career as an independent landlord in 2016 after taking over the Pheasant in Berkshire, which he then sold to Young’s after quadrupling its sales in five years.
