This rat understands the importance of feedback (find me at @thekitchenrat), but it seems that one Harvester restaurant has not quite grasped it. It has cheekily been handing out vouchers offering a free starter or dessert in return for a nine or 10 rating on its internal guest survey. What the voucher fails to add is that the freebie is on offer for all reviewers, regardless of their rating. A Harvester spokesperson confirmed: “It is not brand policy to ask guests to leave solely positive reviews in return for complimentary food or drink.” Good news, because this rat is partial to the unlimited salad bar.
All about Eve
They say things come in threes, but this rat believes rules are made to be broken, especially when it comes to CH&Co’s acquisition strategy. Having already snapped up Inspire Catering, Gather & Gather and Company of Cooks in 2019, few would bet against the foodservice merger machine announcing a fourth deal before the year is out. The company’s big cheeses were certainly bullish about its acquisition growth strategy at a soirée to launch its Eve event management service last week. Speaking of cheese, my eyes lit up when I saw what looked like a giant slice of Red Leicester walking across the room. However, it turned out to be CH&Co Venues boss Derick Martin (pictured) wearing a rather magnificent Eve-branded orange tuxedo. Delicious!
Whisky brand Glenlivet has been savaged on social media for its new whisky cocktail capsules. Described as a “mouth-soluble condom” by the people of Twitter, the biodegradable cocktail capsules are made of seaweed and need no glass, ice or cocktail stirrer. They come in citrus, wood and spice flavours, the latter of which has base notes of ‘leather and tobacco’. Mmm.
